Pride of our Youth

It was just a stroll across campus. After hanging out, studying, eating, etc in the student union, it was time to walk back to the Temple building for one more class and then home. On my way past the large garden just south of the library, I was overcome with a sense that I still cannot describe to this day – though I will try.

The only thing I can really say is that I felt like I could suddenly see for miles and miles. The world was so small, yet I was realizing for the first time just how large. I felt a part of it all, at one and at peace with a chaotic world. It was the dawn of my brain.

Later that day, or the next day maybe? I don’t know. But I was talking to my best friend. He told me to the story of his walk across campus and how we noticed a small bird and it captured his entire attention. And then he proceeded to describe the exact same feeling I had had.

“Dude,” he said, “I think I’ve hit enlightenment.”

“Dude,” I replied, “I think we got enlightened at the same time.”

“Dude.”

“Dude.”

Anything and everything was possible. For the first and the last time.
