Walk Asking

Yes, I walked up hill to school, both ways, and in the snow.
Over the bridge, actually.
Past the stadium. To the theatre.
The Temple.

On cold days and hot days.

On the day I dropped an easter egg into that coal train.

On windy days, like when we saw RENT.

On the day that we held hands
and we talked about math.

That silent high five.

That night I dared to walk under the bridge
on my way home late at night

That simple bridge and the miles of feet.

stay pure, stay poor.
