Practice, Practice, Practice

After a two-year hiatus (thanks, Covid!) Performing Arts Educators is heading back to New York City. We are excited to bring our choral concert celebrating the life and work Dr. Martin Luther King back to the stage at Carnegie Hall.

Years past have allowed me to offer jobs to seniors or recent grads of the colleges where I was working and give them the experience of working in a world class performing arts center and letting them add something impressive to their resume. It gave me great joy to take those kids to a nice a fancy dinner after the show and make them feel like a million bucks. That probably won’t happen this year, mostly because we are only doing one show instead of our usual two (or sometimes three!) and so the extra hands are not needed.

But we should be able to take in a nice Broadway show or two, maybe even see some old friends, and for once I’d really like to see the Guggenheim Museum. There aren’t a lot of “tourist” things I really want to do in NYC. 30 Rock, or an SNL taping would be cool. But let’s be honest — what I really want is the food. Pizza, duh. Chinatown, yum. Bistro sandwiches, yes please. Street-vendor hot dogs, I’ll take two!

My favorite thing about New York City is that I don’t live there – I only visit for a few days and then leave. It’s the perfect amount of time to spend in that city, even if most of it is working.
